The Official Website of Stephenie Meyer
June 29, 2009
It has been a while since the last time I posted anything—I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to bring your attention to a couple of things.
First, in case you didn't see it, New Moon: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion is already available for pre-order (even though the cover art has not been released). For those of you who haven't seen the Twilight Companion, it is filled with high-quality images and behind-the-scenes information. Please note that Stephenie does not write these books, but I really enjoyed the first one.
Also, Random House (the company who produces the Twilight audiobooks) is hosting another contest through their subsidiary suvudu.com. They will be giving away the entire Twilight series on audio books (you must be a resident of the United States and 18 years of age or older to enter). Please note that this contest is not at all affiliated with StephenieMeyer.com, although I do enjoy listening to the audio books.
Good luck!

A quick fyi: I am taking down my bloated myspace page. It was a lot of fun while it lasted, and I really miss the early days when I could hang out with people online. Many of you are hilarious and insightful, and I wish it was easier for me to talk to everyone the way I used to.
With the myspace no longer in existence, I can now clearly state that—beside than this website—there is no other outlet where I communicate with people online. I do not have a facebook page, and I have never had one. I don't do twitter. So if you're communicating with someone online that you think is me, it's not.
Hope you all are having a great summer so far! If you're looking for some beach reading, you might try Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series if you haven't already. My son finally finished book five
yesterday so I could read it today. It was a fantastic end to a fantastic series. I tip my hat to you, Mr. Riordan!

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of The Host's publication—and it is still on bestseller lists everywhere. Congratulations Stephenie!
If you have some free time, go check out TheHostNovel.com where you can find videos, discussion questions, banners to celebrate The Host's first birthday and more!
And if you are a new Stephenie Meyer fan and have not yet read The Host, I would definitely recommend reading it. If you don't have it, then I would recommend buying it now and then reading it. If you are new to the site, I will repeat what I have mentioned in the past, even though I have been criticized at times for saying it. Out of Stephenie's five published books (and I am a huge fan of the Twilight series), The Host is my favorite. It really is an incredible and very enjoyable book.

There are a lot of things I should be doing updates on—for example, how awesome and successful the Book Babe event was, and how cool it was to meet all the other authors and hang out with them a little bit, and how much I appreciated all the tremendous support from the fans—but instead of commenting on happy things (which I admit I should have done a week ago; I was waiting for things to slow down for a day, silly me!), I'm commenting on ridiculous internet rumors so that my publicist's day will be just a little bit better.
I am not being sued. No one has contacted me or my publisher to inform either of us that I'm being sued. I never had a roommate named Heidi. There is no professor in the BYU English department named Dr. Peter Benton (though there is a character on ER by that name). And most of all, I began writing Twilight exactly the way I've told people in countless interviews and events for the past six years: I had a cool dream, I wrote it down, writing it down was really fun, so I kept writing until I had a whole book.
The sad thing about this silly situation is that so many legitimate news outlets reported it without doing any research at all to determine if there was any truth to the story. And at least two of these facts are really, really easy to confirm. Particularly, the one about the BYU professor. A simple on-line search can give you that information. Also, a quick call to my publisher would have cleared up the whole lawsuit story. (Kudos to the fansites who did their due diligence and debunked this rumor days ago.)
I guess the moral of the story is that—big surprise—you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Seems like it's April Fool's Day every day on-line. So no worries, the filming of New Moon continues uninterrupted. And, to end this on a bright note, the filming of New Moon continues to be awesome. It's all so beautiful! Chris Weitz is brilliant. Kristen, Rob, and Taylor are beyond words. I have gotten choked up more than once on set due to their amazing performances. I can't wait to see it all put together!

I'm adding one more very special, one-of-a-kind item to my auction list for the Save the Book Babe event this Saturday. Hobo Skateboards has designed a beautiful The Host-themed board just for this fund raiser. Am I allowed to bid on this stuff? I'd better check.
|
Hobo Skate Co. established early in 2009 by Jared Hancock and Chad Swensen is a premier skateboard and apparel company that donates 5% of all revenue to the Hobo Foundation. This foundation provides financial and other resources to the homeless. You can find them at www.hoboskateco.com. |
I suppose I should mention that this is, in spite of the date, not an April Fool's joke. The skateboard will really be at the event this Saturday.
Also, despite some really tasteful Fool's Day pranks on-line, I want to assure you that I am in excellent health, thank you very much. Also, I have no current plans to write any scripts, sequels, or collaborations, nor have I been to any conventions this year.
Have a great week, everybody, and I hope to see many of you this weekend at the Book Babe event!
Thanks,
Steph

Me and the Book Babe at the Eclipse prom.
Here's a little more information on the items I'll be auctioning at the Book Babe Event:
The epilogue to Forever Dawn (FD being the original sequel to Twilight)* — This piece was written January of 2004, before I had started to edit Twilight. It's pretty fluffy, just something I wrote because I wanted to spend some more time with Edward and Bella. The epilogue revolves around the minor character, Max—J Jenk's assistant—who had a slightly longer interaction with Bella in Forever Dawn. Because Twilight was still unedited, a few odd things remain, like Rosalie being called Carol. It's about 3100 words long.
My Eclipse Prom dress — This is the story behind my rather over-the-top dress: the idea for the Eclipse Prom began with a fan suggestion that I do one of my events with a formal dress requirement, to give us all a chance to dress up. I loved the idea, so we created the Eclipse Prom. In order to encourage people to come all fancy without worrying about being overdressed, I promised that my dress would out-formal every other dress in attendance. I made this promise rashly, as it's harder to find ball gowns than one might think. After much searching, I saw this gorgeous red satin wedding dress in the window of a couture bridal shop. Yes, it's actually a wedding dress. I bought it in a panicked rush a day before leaving the country for some events. I had the shop take about eight feet of train off, and make me the little jacket with the extra fabric. And, though it was close in a few cases, I think I made good on my rash promise.
Marked up manuscripts for Eclipse and The Host * — These are early drafts of my novels. Both of them have notes from my editors and lots of small things that were later changed or deleted.
Signed Twilight ARC (advanced reading copy) — They didn't make as many of these as they did for New Moon, so they're much harder to come by. Signed ones are even more rare. I had two of my own; after this auction, I'll have one.
Lunch — I will take whoever wins this item and a guest out to lunch (in Phoenix).
* Anything that involves my unpublished writing is copyrighted. If you win one of these items, you will have to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Here are pictures of the items I'm putting in the online auction (everything is signed):
Hope to see you there!!

March 16, 2009
Hey guys! This is just a heads up about an event I'm involved with here in Phoenix. The plan was for me to go entirely hermit this year (or decade), but there are always those things important enough to pull me out of my burrow. One of my dear friends and mentors, Faith Hochhalter—a truly gifted book buyer who put together some of my most successful events—was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I am not the only author who was helped along by her talent and enthusiasm, and all of us who have enjoyed her influence in our lives and careers are eager to help her through this rough time. To assist with her medical bills, several young adult writers are joining together for a fund-raising event: Project Save the Book Babe. The event will be on April 4th in Tempe, AZ; it will include live music, a panel discussion with the attending authors, and an auction of some fun and/or rare items from each author. All the information about the event and the authors attending can be found at ProjectBookBabe.com. Personally, I'll be auctioning some ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) of my books, an early marked up manuscript or two, my dress from the Eclipse prom, and the fluffy original epilogue to Forever Dawn, along with signed books, of course. We're still in the process of putting this together, so more info will be forthcoming over the next week. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday the 17th) so if you're interested in attending and helping us save our Book Babe Faith, hurry over to the site and check it out.
Thank you!

Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz
I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.

Since 2008 is almost over, I thought I would take a minute to congratulate Stephenie on a successful year. A lot of very exciting things have happened this year, and it has been fun for those of us who are fans of the writing to follow along.
Several major media outlets have also noted the success, and (as long as I am posting something that Stephenie probably wouldn't approve of) I thought I would post a few of the links for those of you who haven't heard about the recognition and praise that she has received for the year of 2008:
OK, I know that the AZ Republic may not be as big as TIME, but it is a very cool experience to be able to open up the paper and be surprised by an article about a family member, so I thought I would include it. Anyway, congrats, Stephenie, and thanks to everyone for joining us during this crazy and exciting year. We wish you all the best in 2009!

December 17, 2008
Stephenie's publicist Elizabeth asked me to post the following announcement:
It has come to our attention that there are several people on social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook pretending to be Stephenie. The only site besides StephenieMeyer.com that Stephenie has is a MySpace site at www.myspace.com/stephenie_meyer. Only announcements on this website, Stephenie's official MySpace page and thetwilightsaga.com (the publisher Little, Brown's website) should be considered legitimate. Please note, due to the overwhelming number of e-mails she receives on her MySpace page, Stephenie is unable to answer e-mails.
Also, Stephenie is aware of the numerous Twilight conventions happening next year. It is exciting to see so many fans wanting to celebrate the books together. However, these conventions are not authorized or endorsed by Stephenie and she will not be attending any of the conventions. We hope that fans enjoy the conferences, but wanted to make this distinction so people weren't spending money under the assumption that Stephenie would be in attendance.
While I'm posting, I wanted to take a minute to congratulate everyone involved in the production of Twilight the movie. If you haven't been following the box office statistics, I would suggest checking them out on BoxOfficeMojo.com. The success really has been phenomenal, so congrats to everyone at Summit, the very talented actors, and everyone else involved in the making of the film!
And on a slightly unrelated note, I forgot to post a link to the Twilight: The Score when it was released last week (this is separate from the soundtrack, and the only song that is on both is "Bella's Lullaby"). It has been receiving great reviews on-line, so I went to listen to some of the samples at Amazon.com (link above) and it is extremely good. If you are still looking for gifts for the holidays, this might be a good one for anyone who enjoyed the movie.
We at StephenieMeyer.com want to wish everyone a happy holiday season. We appreciate you visiting our site. Please be safe and have an enjoyable few weeks.

December 13, 2008
Hey guys,
There's been a lot of worry and speculation on the boards lately, and I want to let you know what's going on.
First of all, like you, I'm sad that Catherine is not continuing on with us for New Moon. I'm going to miss her, not just as a brilliant director, but also as a friend. She has such a distinct, authentic voice that did amazing things for Twilight. I'm looking forward to every movie she does in the future.
And she didn't leave us empty handed. We still get the benefits of her amazing casting and the beautiful visual world she created. This foundation puts us in a good place for New Moon.
Summit Films is moving forward with a new director for New Moon. They've asked Chris Weitz, director of American Pie, About a Boy, and The Golden Compass, to join us, and I am very pleased to announce that he's agreed to be a part of our Twilight world. I've had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy. (Torches and pitchforks are not going to be necessary.)
I'm excited to work with Chris and I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy. I'm really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon.
Below is a letter from Chris to you. I think you'll get a glimpse in this note of how cool it's going to be having Chris as part of our community.
[Letter moved to New Moon: the movie page]
One more thing, unrelated but fun: I finally got around to posting a few pictures from the premiere on the Twilight movie page.

November 22, 2008
Please go to the movie page for a very exciting announcement.
Also, as it has been requested of me in the past to alert visitors of the site to new products and releases, I thought I should remind you about the Twilight Collector's Edition. Although we originally announced it several months ago, it just went on-sale earlier this week and is currently shipping from Amazon.com (link above). Please note that it is still Twilight—nothing has been changed in the story from the original book. But, it is a very nice copy of the book that could make a great gift. Here is the description from the publishing company: "Featuring a ribbon bookmark, cloth cover, ragged edges, new chapter opener designs, and a beautiful protective slipcase, this edition is perfect for fans and collectors alike." Anyway, I just thought I would let you know that it is available (since most of us have been too wrapped up in the movie to think about anything else Twilight-related).
Have a great day!

November 19, 2008
The movie is awesome! I hope that didn't spoil too much for anyone. Due to my connections in Hollywood, I was invited to watch the premiere in LA. It was amazing. I wasn't planning on changing the look of the site for the release of the movie, but after watching it I feel it is necessary to show my excitement by adding the image above to all of the Twilight pages. Go to the movie page to read more of my thoughts on the premiere and the movie itself (but I promise there will be no spoilers).
--Seth
November 14, 2008

Also, in case you haven't been paying attention (or possibly have been hiding under a rock for the last few months), Twilight the movie hits theaters in one week from today!
